Nearly 70 Valley schools were either closed or delayed Monday, two days after a winter storm dumped 20 inches of snow in some areas.
With a second storm coming, schools are scrambling to get a plan in place for the week ahead.
Austintown Schools were delayed, but some parents didn't mind the two-hour wait for school to start.
"I didn't understand the two hour delay, but I wouldn't say an inconvenience," said parent Greg Donchess. "Sometimes I just wish they would cancel it all together."
Poland School District originally had a two-hour delay Monday, but closed once officials realized the buses couldn't get down many roads.
"The conditions of the roads, especially the side roads," said Superintendent Dr. Robert Zorn. "Once they got them all plowed, which the road crews did a good job, now we have a lot of ice."
Just down the road, however, Boardman stayed open.
"Canfield and Poland on our neighboring east and west borders, they do have more rural roads than we do here in Boardman," said Superintendent Frank Lazzeri.
Columbiana was closed Monday because of ice on the road as well. In some areas, it was one to two inches think.
Deciding whether to close school is a day-by-day process.
"We'll have to play it by ear," said Columbiana Superintendent Don Mook. "But if we get as much as they're calling for, we are certainly going to air on the side of caution."
Another six to 10 inches of snow is expected to fall between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. A handful of schools had already canceled Tuesday classes by Monday night, and many schools could be closed later in the week.
"As for the anticipated snow, I guess you have to take one day at a time," said Lazzeri.
Many schools expect at least two-hour delays Wednesday morning.
