The Mahoning County Board of Elections had a busy day on Saturday opening absentee ballots.
This year, they have about 12,000 to 13,000 absentee ballots, which doubles the amount from 2007. Workers spent the day opening and flattening the ballots before they go through the scanner.
The director of the Board of Elections, Thomas McCabe, says he doesn't believe the ballot language errors were an issue for the absentee voters. "I think this was a voter education issue. I think the word got out that this is the same tax in regards to Issue 4 and I think voters are aware of that. Their taxes don't increase with this issue."
The board will begin counting the ballots on Tuesday, Election Day.
