Another county-wide issue involves Mahoning County's public libraries.
The system is asking voters to approve a 1-mill renewal levy, a measure that's taken on even more significance this year in light of huge cuts in state funding for libraries, which were reduced by 30 percent to help balance Ohio's budget.
Directors warn if the local measure isn't approved next month, the library system will lose another $3.8 million in revenue.
Even if the levy passes, Executive Director Carlton Sears anticipates the system will still be short by more than a million dollars because of further expected cuts at the state level.
He said another levy to cover that remain amount is already being planned for next spring's primary.
